Participants will receive information of a real-life site the day of the competition. The zoning, size, and building codes will require teams to overcome real-world limitations faced by real estate developers, builders, architects, policy makers, and financial institution in Utah.

Proposals are required to be submitted within the 24-hour time frame of the competition. (No late proposals will be accepted). Winners will be announced at noon on September 14th. In spirit of the 24-hour format, teams are not permitted to compete with preprepared work. 


Ideas will be judged first based on the feasibility of the solution, second on the uniqueness of the proposal, and third how the proposal savings were calculated. Teams are encouraged to pursue innovative and scalable solutions which cross sectors and can be applied broadly to the housing market in addition to fitting the particular parameters provided the day of the competition.


Winners of the competition will be awarded to the team whose idea combines innovation in 1) housing finance, 2) policy, and 3) design + construction into a realistic and unique proposal.

A 2nd and 3rd place prize will be awarded as well.  

  1. Participants can register as individuals or as a teams. Individual participants will be assigned to a team the day of the competition.

  2. We encourage participants to stay the entire duration of the competition to complete their presentation, but are not required.

  3. Hack-A-House will provide dinner, breakfast, lunch, and snacks during the of the competition.
