Housing Affordability Lab at the University of Utah

If you are a student at the University of Utah, you can apply for this experiential lab that will explore innovations with potential to improve housing affordability in Utah and the United States as a whole.

The lab collaborates with Ivory Homes, providing support to the Ivory Prize search award. Students in the course communicate directly with the national advisory board of Ivory Innovations and have opportunities to travel to meet with nominees for the prize.

Ivory Innovations supports hackathons for housing affordability at universities to engage the next generation in finding solutions to this national crisis. In 2019 we will release an event guide to help student organizers host events at their universities with a faculty sponsor.

Over 100 participants were drawn to the 2018 University of Utah Hack-A-House where $5,000 of prizes and automatic entry to the Schmidt American Dreams prize drew stiff competition. To see the schedule and winners of the event please use the link below.

The Ivory Prize

The Ivory Prize is an annual award recognizing ambitious, feasible, and scalable solutions to housing affordability. The Prize is designed to award innovators for their efforts and provide material support to advance their projects. The search committee looks for solutions which combine elements of finance, policy, and design/construction.
